A tree lot sells you a tree. A farm gives you the afternoon.

Families have been walking these rows for over 40 years, and plenty of them now bring the kids who used to ride on their shoulders. You will not be handed a tree off a rack. You drive into the fields, argue about which one is too tall, cut it down together, and warm up at the fire pit while it runs through the baler. If you would rather skip the saw, both farms keep a full pre-cut selection by the yard.

  1. Step 1

    Drive out into the rows

    You take your own vehicle into the fields on the marked roads. Greeters and maps point you at the section that has what you are after.

  2. Step 2

    Cut any tree you like

    Nothing is pre-tagged. We hand you a saw at no charge, so there is no need to bring one, and 6 to 20 foot trees are standing at Clear Lake.

  3. Step 3

    Shaking and baling is on us

    Every tree runs the line free: the loose needles come off before it ever reaches your living room, it gets measured, and it gets wrapped for the drive.

  4. Step 4

    Pay by the tag, and we help you load

    The baling line gives you a tag with the size on it. Take it to the cashiers, and staff will help get the tree on the car. Twine is there if you need it.

On event weekends the farm turns into a whole day.

Santa in the cabin, horse-drawn wagon rides through the rows, a petting zoo, pony rides, face painting, chainsaw carving, the playground, the fire pit, and Clark the camel, who arrived as a baby and got his name from a guest vote. The local Cub Scouts run the food tent. All of it is free with your visit.

Bring the dog on a leash. Cash, check, and card all work, and there is no ATM on site.

Short on daylight? There is a faster way to the same tree.

Both farms keep a full pre-cut selection in the yard, so the farm is still a grab-and-go stop. Closer to town, our three Twin Cities lots carry the same farm-grown trees, trucked in fresh, with a free fresh cut and baling on request. Santa visits two of them.

Tree varieties available

Fraser Fir

Prized for holding needles and fragrance the longest.

Balsam Fir

Classic Christmas-tree scent, dense branches.

Canaan Fir

A soft-needled cross between Fraser and Balsam.

Korean Fir

Limited supply, distinctive silvery-blue needles.

White Pine

Long, soft needles; a Minnesota favorite.

Scotch Pine

Sturdy branches that hold heavy ornaments well.

Meyer & Serbian Spruce

Available at Clear Lake; full, symmetrical shape.

Availability varies by location and by week; species and sizes are limited to what's on the lot or in the field that day.
