Rubrum's Northwoods Maple
Acer rubrum 'Northwood'
$225-$400 for 1.75"-3.5" caliper B&B; park grade $75-$200
Rubrum’s Northwoods Maple is a hardy red maple selection with a rounded to oval form and average texture. Showy flowers emerge along the stems each spring; leaves open red and turn green through summer before flushing vibrant red to orange in fall.
It reaches about 50 feet tall and 35 feet wide, growing roughly 15 inches a year. The tree tolerates a range of soils from sand to clay, though it prefers acidic conditions, and beyond occasional pruning it’s a relatively low-maintenance tree, a good fit as an accent or specimen planting.
